A variety of social/recreational, educational and charitable activities and events are offered for children and their families. Members, please check your monthly newsletter for specific dates and times of events. Non-members, join today and start enjoying all that the LPPTA has to offer!

All activities are staffed by volunteers from our membership.

Book Clubs

You are invited to join our member-only Book Clubs.

Drop-In Center

The Drop-In Center is newly located at Kennedy Hall in the St. Brigid's School at St. Brigid's Church in Lexington . It is a great place for kids ages 0-5 and parents/caregivers to play, relax, socialize, and make new friends. The Drop-In Center schedule is Fridays from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m ., with Circle Time from 11:00 - 11:30 a.m . The cost is $1.00 per child.

When visiting the Drop-In Center , please use the Worthen Road entrance across from the Douglas Funeral Home. Park in the back of the school and use the entrance immediately on your right to enter Kennedy Hall in St. Brigid's School. We are always looking for volunteers to host the Drop-In Center , so please sign up when you stop by or contact our Drop-In Center Chairperson.

The Drop-In Center follows the Lexington Public School calendar. Any time the Lexington Public Schools are closed, the LPPTA Drop-In Center will be closed. You can access the Lexington Public School schedule at http://lps.lexingtonma.org/calendar.html.

Halloween Parade

The annual parade is held on the last Saturday morning in October (with a rain date of the next day, the last Sunday morning in October). Preschoolers in costume and their parents parade into Lexington center. Anyone may participate in the parade.

Kindergarten Connection

Each Spring the LPPTA coordinates gatherings for all families in Lexington with children entering public Kindergarten in the fall. Several informal gatherings are organized for each school district and take place in the Summer months June. Information and sign-up forms for this program are sent with the Lexington Public Schools registration packet which are mailed out in February.

Open House - come get to know the LPPTA!

Our annual open house is held for a full day (morning into early evening) in mid September. Members who join or renew their membership on or before the Open House will receive a FREE family pass to our Member Appreciation Night later in the fall. The Open House is your first chance to receive the new edition of the annual booklet. This book is a great resource for sunny and rainy day activities in the Lexington area, family resources, Lexington resources, childcare centers and nursery schools in Lexington . Come pick up your copy, and then stay for entertainment and refreshments as well as an introduction to our many activities. At this event you can signup for play groups or book clubs. Children are welcome as long as they are supervised.

Playgroups

Members may sign up for this free service year round. The playgroup chairperson provides parents with a list of potential playmates who are close in age to their own child. Groups are then formed independently. Playgroups are a great way for you and your children to have fun, share ideas, build a support network, make new friends, and enjoy a valuable social experience. Members who sign up for playgroups will receive a Playgroup Information Packet which includes a master list of other people who have expressed interest in joining and/or forming a playgroup. The packet also includes general guidelines for setting up playgroups as well as some added articles and information. In addition to age specific playgroups, there are also special interest playgroups such as a bilingual playgroups, working parent playgroups, nanny/caregiver playgroups, and pre-playgroups for expectant parents.

Social Events

The LPPTA organizes social events so our membership can meet, socialize, and have fun. These events are geared to the interests of preschoolers and their families, and are publicized only to the membership. Activities include discounted tickets to family entertainment events, a monthly Mom's Night Out, and other adult social gatherings. There are also Meet at the Playground events and a potluck at one of the summertime Bicentennial Band concerts.

Summerfun

Summerfun sessions are weekly get-togethers during the summer months designed for toddlers , preschoolers, and their parents or caregiver. Sessions consist of outdoor play and arts and crafts . It is held in members' yards, weather permitting. A fee of $1.00 per child is asked to cover materials and a snack.

Winterfun

Winterfun is a drop-in arts-and-crafts time for toddlers and preschoolers and their parent or caregiver. It is held bi-weekly, on Wednesday mornings between October-April. Activities include a selection of fun crafts projects that vary each session in addition to playdough, crayons, and a toy area for toddler play. There is a fee of $2.00 per child to cover materials and snacks.

EDUCATIONAL

Early Education Open House (formerly Nursery School Night)

Representatives from local preschools and child care centers are invited to participate in an open forum. This well-attended program held on an evening in October is helpful to parents beginning the process of selecting an early education program for their children.

Seminars

Seminars are held on various topics of interest to parents, such as toilet training and child development.  The seminar schedule will be printed in the monthly newsletter.

CHARITABLE

Community Relations

The LPPTA has representatives on the PTA Council and the Early Education Committee and maintains communication with the Lexington Public Schools , the Recreation Department and Cary Library. We participate in community events and make annual donations to organizations that benefit Lexington preschoolers such as the Lexington Recreation Department, Lexington Food Pantry, and the Cary Library.

Community Service Programs

You and your preschooler are invited to participate in several community service activities in and around Lexington organized by the Community Service Committee. Activities include participation on a regular Meals-On-Wheels route, holiday gift giving to area families in-need, and regular visits to senior centers.

Preschool Scholarship Fund
The LPPTA offers a need-based scholarship to a four year old attending a Lexington preschool. The scholarship is publicized through local preschools and LPPTA functions. The scholarship is funded by proceeds from among our many fundraising efforts. For more information, contact Karen Dixon .
